Stardust
30×24” acrylic on canvas. The one that started it all.
This elephant was inspired by the book “Beyond Words” by Carl Safina. Elephants- gentle, empathetic giants of the world- are essentially made from the same stuff humans are. We are all stardust. “The problem isn’t ‘imposing…a distinctly human understanding of the world.’ The problem is imposing a distinctly human misunderstanding. Our deepest insight into the living world: all life is one. Their cells are our cells, their body is our body, their skeleton our skeleton, their heart, lungs, blood, ours.”
“…their presence in the world has as much validity as does our presence…they are foundational to us. They take only what they need. They are compatible with life around them. On their watch, the world lasted. They are not the same as us, but they experience their lives vividly; they burn brightly. We’ve taken much of what they need, dimming their candle. They enliven the world, and beautifully.” -Carl Safina
